Orange
Jedda recently posted a photo full of lovely orange hues, and I couldn’t help but comment, “I am an 🍊”, along with a photo of my tattoo. She replied, quite reasonably, asking whether orange was my favourite fruit.
Well, not exactly. I do like oranges, but there’s another reason I said that. Let me explain.
I once had a blog called SINAS, named after what we call orange Fanta in Dutch. I don’t use the name any more, but the logo still shows up now and then as my profile picture or favicon.
Why SINAS?
I have Spanish roots 🇪🇸, and if you mix the colours of the Spanish flag, you pretty much end up with orange. And let’s be honest, oranges are practically honorary citizens of Spain.
And I was born and raised in the Netherlands, where orange isn't just a colour. It’s a national identity. From football (or soccer, in the US) to royal birthdays, orange is everywhere. It’s unmistakably Dutch.
So no, orange isn’t my favourite fruit per se, but it might just be my favourite feeling. It’s such a happy colour.
