Learning Swift & SwiftUI

A few months ago, I started a Java development course and completed the beginner level. As I got deeper into coding, I began asking myself: What kind of applications do I actually want to build? Front-end? Back-end? Mobile?

While exploring those questions, I found myself looking more closely at mobile app development. I briefly considered switching to Kotlin and moving into Android. It made sense on paper. I already had some background in Java from my earlier work in software in the banking industry.

I was thinking practically. There are plenty of jobs in Java, and my professional network is rooted in that world. I also love the Java community and know many people in it.

At the same time, Swift and SwiftUI started to capture my attention. I'm already using the Apple ecosystem. Still, I kept overthinking it: Should I switch? And if I switch now, will I want to switch again in a few months? Is this just a case of the grass being greener on the other side?

Around that time, I also received an ADHD diagnosis. In many ways, it helped explain my shifting interests and the way my mind constantly jumps between ideas. It gave me some peace of mind. What I once saw as indecision might actually be curiosity and adaptability. Because why not sugarcoat it? For me, having ADHD is no fun. But embracing the chaos, sarcastically or not, helps me stay sane.

So I decided to do what excites me right now. And that's iOS development.

Yes, part of me still wants to learn Kotlin (and many, many other things) as well. But trying to do both at the same time would be a bit much, and it's not recommended. For now, I’m focusing on building iOS apps.

Yes, for now, who knows where my brain will take me tomorrow?

Here’s to new beginnings. Again. Have Mercy! ;)
